Paganism finds its most ancient roots in the cultures of rural peoples, who evolved their spirituality from their direct interactions with the natural world. Their symbols, their beliefs and their values generally reflected the centrality of Nature in their lives. Modern paganism has evolved in a very different world --- in an urban, materialistic and Christian-dominated culture which has created an artificial separation between people and Nature. This workshop will explore how we can build bridges to connect those two very different cultural models, using as an example the work of the EarthSpirit Community --- a pagan organization founded in 1977 which focuses on sustaining pagan spirituality, culture and community.
